Corvallis Foundry Gallery (257 SW Madison Ave, Suite 210) features Model Organisms. As a PhD researcher, I am interested in technologies of sensing and observation. In our world, viewing is not only undertaken by prosthetic sensors, but interpreted by algorithms; these operational images structure the world and our own seeing. This motivates recent paintings of ‘standard test objects’, which include imagery from 3D scanning datasets and datasets used to demonstrate computer-vision and graphics algorithms. I am interested in those places where human and machine vision meet, whose convergence is core to the problem of painting in the digital age; I believe that painting has an interpretative or investigative role to play in understanding what’s happening with machine vision now.
